Greetings & salutations my name is Flip Dunn-Davies and I live in NW London in the UK on a street which isn’t called stone street but means the same thing. The reason I am writing this blog is as a journal and way of expressing myself, from the daily minutiae of my life to the more exciting and unexpected events that I witness, as well as reviews of television and film that I watch and I am quite a cinema goer I went 26+ times in 2014. As you can see from the title of this post all posts will be dated with the day that they are written on. I will try to post 2/3 times a week with posts covering the intervening period, as I am usually busy I doubt there will ever be a post on a weekend there’s just so much to do I’d never fit it in but the Monday post will always cover the weekends as sometimes the funniest things happen when you least expect them. Well as for today’s post it is going to cover Monday 20th up to and including today. First some background having recently made some big decisions about how I live and what I am doing with my life, I set some short-term life goals and due to my interest in military history, I named them after famous towns or cities in Russia/Ukraine that were battles in WWII for example the goal which has the highest priority right now is the “battle for Moscow” there are four in total named Moscow, Leningrad, Kharkov, Sevastopol. Having been working flat out on these goals which are fairly varied in scope and depth it has been filling my time leaving little for artistic or self expression so this blog is a result of not having an outlet to express myself clearly, hence the name. To give you an idea of the chaos that reigns here on Stone street here is whats been happening, over the last two weeks the council have been finally replacing my gas heating system(it’s only been 30 years since it was repaired) having completely removed both the water tank and boiler leaving me with no hot water to wash or clean with(arrgh) it has finally been finished though it is as yet not fully working the final bits and bobs are to be done next week.
Also despite having a clearly marked door number & being a solitary flat the postman seems fit to keep posting the neighbors post through my door, which is quite concerning as what is he doing with our actual post and numeracy must surly be a key skill? on top this A person put a A4 sheet of writing through my door it was entitled “stop the diagnosis and treatment of fictitious diseases”(see image below) now let me explain a little about my residence, Stone Street is no fluffy middle class suburban street, despite being in one of the wealthiest areas of London it is made up several council estates and a row of terraced houses broken up into flats also mainly council owned. As for the residents themselves it is a world map of people from all cultures and ethnicities, nearly all working class with plenty of “unsavoury” types drug dealers, pimps and prostitutes etc plus the regular law abiding types. So having someone with strange beliefs espousing their views isn’t unusual, the fact they haven’t taken a hostage or blown something up while doing so is the strange thing. The document itself is possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever read if you zoom in on the photo you can see for yourself.
Television, Film and What to Expect
Being a big cinema goer and fan of the televisual arts you can expect lots talk about TV and film, materially that will probably result in 1/2 posts a week covering the TV/Film I’ve watched plus extra posts covering the weeks events, tomorrow you will find a review post of the TV show “The Island with Bear Grylls” a reality show in which 14 men and women are dumped on separate remote tropical islands and left to fend for themselves. Alongside TV and Film reviews I have a fair amount to say on a wide range of topics and as none of the social media platforms(Facebook, Twitter, etc) are really designed for a good tirade or expression of my view a blog is the perfect medium so in summary expect 3-5 posts a week on all and sundry. Until tomorrow
